Pretty Little Liars (Christmas episode review)
WOW! Man oh man did a lot happen on this episode! First off, I was so excited when it was announced PLL was doing a Christmas episode. In 4 seasons, they had never done one so now in its 5th season, it was better late than ever. Well, the WAIT WAS WORTH IT! There was so much drama! I feel a lot was revealed in this episode. It started off with Mona, yes I said Mona, back, but as a ghost! They played off the plot of "A Christmas Carol," in which Allison was visited by not only dead Mona, but her dead mother as well.
So, it started off with Mona paying Ali a visit in her bedroom and led to Ali's living room, where Mona showed her a glimpse of her past. Ali was playing the piano, and one of the keys appeared to be not working. So little Ali (who looked like she was 9 at the time) opened the piano and found 2 gifts. She brought them to the couch and opened them, revealing 2 of the same dress in each box. Ali's mother walks in and busts her. Ali asks her mom why there are 2 dresses, and Mrs. Dilaurentis tells her that only one is for her and to not tell her father, because she tells Ali he will leave them (seriously! who tells a child that?).
Anyways, she convinces Ali to tell her father, if he asks, that she saw only one dress. So, I feel like this is a huge clue! I think it might be going back to the book (where Ali has an evil twin sister!). But hold up, there's also dead Bethany who could still be Ali's sister.
Anyways, fast-forward to this winter ball that Ali was hosting. All the liars were invited. They had a plan in place to try to catch Ali in her lies, because they believe it was she who killed Mona (which I do not believe). At the ball, Aria follows Ali into a room where she sees her kissing Santa Claus! Or well, it was someone dressed as Santa, minus the fat stomach and beard. Can I just say I LOVE Aria's line to Emily after that, "I SAW ALI KISSING SANTA CLAUS!" So classic! haha. So we see that Lucas is dressed as Santa, but he had the beard and stomach and was working with the liars to work against Alli. BUT, later Officer Hollbrook appears dressed as Santa with no beard and no fat stomach (and wearing a wife beater underneath, showing it off, which I felt was very inappropriate, considering this is an event full of underage girls!). So he then walks up to Aria telling her she's been naughty (again inappropriate, but more of a gesture to make her feel threatened.
Now, I feel Aria definitely has something to do with everything, and often felt she was "A," and this is the second time Holbrook has made suspicious statements to her. So, yeah, I think she is definitely involved in some way.
Ok. Backing up a little, Ali shows up to the ball with a different group of girls wearing masquerade masks, and the girls refer to them as her "new army."
We later find out two of of those girls are Jenna & that new girl, Sydney. So they claim Ali asked them to be her friends and out of fear of what hell she would do to them, if they said no, they said yes. But they tell Emily they also think Ali killed Mona, and assure they are not the "enemy." Later, it is revealed to us, the viewers, that Ali met with a white-hooded person at the ball who turns out to be Cici!
Yes CeCe, who Ali helped escape to Paris! So interesting timing that CeCe is back, and we know the person who killed Mona had blonde hair or a blonde wig. So yes, I suspect her too, of being connected to Mona's murder.
So meanwhile, Spencer and Hanna left the ball to go investigate Ali's house for clues. Toby watched from Spencer's house as the two of them searched. Of course black-hooded "A" shows up, but with a knife this time (she ain't messing around anymore). Spencer is hiding behind Ali's living room couch as she watches "A" look around. She and Toby try to text Hanna who is up in Ali's attic, but typical Hanna left her phone on vibrate on the couch. So, as Hanna is searching a bin full of letters, she finds one from Ali to Bethany! This is interesting because it shows Ali knew her. But before she could read anymore, she hears "A" walking up the stairs. She goes down the stairs afraid and moves the door where BAM! There's "A"!!! Spencer hears a scream and finds Hanna on the floor and the window open making us think "A" pushed her and left, but then there's this person hiding behind this creepy baby mask watching Spencer & Hanna.
So fast-forward back to Ali's house where she is still being terrorized by Mona's ghost. Mona shows her the future. Ali is in a church where there is casket. She walks up to it, and it's her!!! (or her twin if there is a twin) Then Mrs. Dilaurentis shows up dressed in black, telling Ali it's all her fault she's dead and tells her "they're going to come for you." At that point, Alli asks her mom if she is going to hell, and all these demonic shadows appear on the walls of the church, and Ali screams out Mona's name and wakes up in her living room.
The episode ends with all the liars having Christmas dinner at Spencer's house, and Ali looks in from outside with a sad look on her face and walks away alone.
Meanwhile the liars hear something on the roof, thinking it's Santa (ok girls you're 17 & 18, too old to believe in Santa..haha). They go outside to see a Christmas tree light up. It's a beautiful sight, until the words light up behind it saying,...
