'Insidious: Chapter 3' gives jumps and scares

If you liked the scary imagery and jumps the first two Insidious films delivered, then you'll enjoy Insidious: Chapter 3.

The film focuses on a young teen girl named Quinn Brenner (played by Stefanie Scott), who lives in an old apartment complex with her father and little brother. They've all suffered the loss of their mother, whom Quinn believes is trying to contact her from the spirit world. So she goes to visit our favorite psychic from the first two films, Elise Rainier (played by Lin Shaye). Yes, Elise is alive in this film! It's because it's a prequel to the first two films. Confused yet? Haha.

Anyways, Elise is a little apprehensive about helping Quinn, because she swore she wouldn't contact the dead anymore due to the fear of being killed by a demon. But after a vision she has, that it's not Quinn's mother who's tying to contact her, but a demon, then she reconsiders (because that makes sense). Meanwhile, Quinn is recovering from an accident that has left her in a wheelchair. So she basically can't run or hide from the demon that starts to haunt her. She soon finds out that it wants to bring her into the dark with it, and that's when Elise comes to help.

So, I LOVED the audience reaction to this film. People were screaming, laughing, and squirming throughout. It had that same scary factor as the other films, but I do feel the plot in the previous films was better. I do like how this film gave more of a backstory to Elise. In my opinion, she was the star of this film. It foreshadows almost everything she goes through in the first films, and you get to really understand her character.

There were times I was jumping and squeezing my hand because I didn't know what was about to happen! And the person who I saw the film with (I won't mention their name) basically almost had a panic attack at times...HAHA. So if you're looking for a good scare and the unexpected, then go see this film, but don't expect it to be better then its predecessors. Insidious: Chapter 3 is rated PG-13 and is out in theaters this Friday, June 5. Below is the creepy trailer in case you haven't seen it. (All images courtesy, Focus Features)
