'Pitch Perfect 2' hits all the right high notes
Finally, after much anticipation we get the sequel to the successfully popular Pitch Perfect. Pitch Perfect 2 is here! And guess what? It doesn't disappoint!
All your favorite Bellas from the original cast are back! This time they've been dominating the a cappella group scene in the U.S., that is until an embarrassing mishap takes place while the girls are performing for President Obama (yes, even the President appears in the film). They are suspended and take it upon themselves to regain their crown and dignity back by entering into a global competition. But there is one problem. A German a cappella group is standing in their way and threatens to take everything the girls work so hard for.
We find the girls now seniors in college. They are all getting ready to graduate and go into the real world, which scares some and excites others. We really get to see them bond in this movie. The cast has more chemistry than the first movie and the girls are HILARIOUS!!! You get to see them as confident young women, which we know they somewhat lacked that in the first film. There's also a new Bella, who's a freshmen, introduced to the group. The girls really come to learn that the sisterhood bond that they share cannot be broken. I have to say, I haven't really enjoyed a "teen movie" like this since Mean Girls. THIS IS HOW YOU DO A SEQUEL! It not only contained the same cast, but clever writing and a fun plot. It was also very inspiring for anyone who wants to pursue their dreams. It teaches you not to be afraid to go after what you really want in life.
Now there are some things that I should mention. There are quite a bit of racist jokes and a few references to sex, so if you're easily offended by those or maybe have children and don't want to expose them to that, then you may want to air on the side of caution. But overall, the film is fun and doesn't mean any harm. OH, and the singing! I almost forgot to talk about the singing! Well, we get more a cappella songs from the Bellas and they are amazing! I love how they harmonize with each other, and you even get to hear a group rendition of "The Cup Song" and other pop songs that I'm sure you love. It will have you wanting to jump in and sing along with the groups. I have already downloaded 3 songs from the soundtrack since I saw the film. So with all this being said, I rate Pitch Perfect 2 with an A-. It is rated P-G 13 and is in theaters today! (All images courtesy Universal)
